The Hurricanes Mission Statement
The U.S.S sanctioned Hurricanes
Swim Team Program is dedicated to the philosophy that all swimmers, regardless
of ability level are special and deserve the opportunity to succeed and grow
both athletically and personally.
Through a competitive structured swim
program, our program focuses on the process of improvement via goal definition,
stroke error analysis and technique correction drills, through challenging
aerobic and anaerobic training sets.
In addition, we offer a program
tailored to individual skill levels, commitments and goals.

BREAKING NEWS: 9/9/05 With Regard to Transfer Forms
9/4/05 A letter from Coach Paul and Coach Carol
August 30, 2005
To Our Hurricane Parents, Swimmers, and Fellow Coaches,
This is without a doubt the most difficult task of our coaching careers. It is with great sadness that we are forced to make a decision to suspend the Hurricane Swimming Program for the fall season. We have spent this entire summer getting estimates for repairs for the pool and the pool roof. Work was to have begun on the pool itself and the roof the week of August 15th and August 22nd.
When the roofers came to make the final preparations to begin the renovations, they discovered more damage on the roof than previously thought. Instead of an estimated $30,000 to fix the roof, the estimate was given to us at a minimum of "$100,000 and up to two months to make the necessary repairs." We immediately called the pool company to hold off on the repairs until the bank was notified about the roof's condition. The bank sent another roofer to confirm the current conditions of the pool roof. The second roofing company told the Hurricanes and the bank that the roof was in such disrepair that a collapse could happen with the first significant snowfall. Two of the walls have actually separated from the roof and the steel structural supports are weakened from years of neglect and excessive water damage.
The bank that owns the Coliseum decided this past week that they were not going to make the necessary repairs, unless the Hurricanes wanted to pay for the roofing and the pool repairs. We were told that this decision was firm on the banks's part. Without the money to pay for the roofing and the pool repairs up front, Carol and I have been making phone calls and pleading for available pool space in the area. We were told by a few pools in the area that we could expect an answer on pool space availability by the beginning of this week.
Unfortunately, we have been told this morning, by our last resource, that there was no pool space available to us. With this information, our last resort is to suspend the Hurricane Swimming, Inc.'s Swimming program. We are hoping that in the near future we will be able to restart our program. We are still in negotiations to be able to restart an abbreviated program in the beginning of 2006. We apologize for this late notice, as we were trying in vain to keep our program's operations from being suspended.
We will miss our Hurricane family and friends. We wish each of you the best in the upcoming season, and hope to see you very soon at the pool once again.
Paul W. Rowe, Jr and Carol L Restrepo

GOD BLESS THE USA |
Four years later, we continue to remember the Hurricane swim team families personally affected by the tragic events of September 11, 2001 and we express our profound sympathy. As our nation continues to struggle to come to terms with what has happened and fight an ongoing war on terrorism, we hope that the swimming community will join us in praying for wisdom for our leaders, comfort for the victims and their families, and unity for the nation We will not forget.
